Diploma Exams and Resit Info
Can I change my exam date? Yes, this is easy to do as long as we haven't placed our official exam order with the WSET. Our exam order deadline varies by unit. It's usually about one month out from a D1 or D2 exam date but can be around three months out for D3, D4 or D5 because the exam wines are shipped over from London and can take a while to clear customs. If you think you may need to change your exam date, please email [email protected] as early as possible so we have the best chance of being able to transfer your exam for no charge.
What if I miss the exam order deadline and then want to change my exam date? You can request an official deferral of your exam date from the WSET. This asks that they let you sit an exam at a later date for no charge. Deferrals are intended for sudden and unforeseeable situations where you can no longer take an exam you planned on: sudden illness or injury, bereavement, etc. If you find yourself in a situation like this, please email [email protected] to request the deferral form. The WSET also requires supporting documentation is required to support your request, such as a doctor's note, COVID-19 PCR results, obituary, etc. Work conflicts typically do not meet the WSET's deferral criteria. If your deferral is approved, we can register you for a new exam date as soon as you'd like. If your deferral is not approved, you will have to pay a resit fee if you miss your exam date. This varies by unit (most are $200-300, although a full D3 exam is $650).
How do I register for an exam resit if I need to take an exam again or I missed my exam?

Please note: Resits are available for candidates who have already taken a diploma exam and did not pass. It is not suitable for those who are transferring their exam from another session or candidates attempting the exam for the first time. If you fall into these categories, please contact our support team by emailing [email protected]. They will assist you in finding the right exam option and provide you with the appropriate link to ensure you’re on the correct path.
Can accommodations be made for me if I have a physical or learning disability that may impact my performance on the exam? Yes, the WSET does allow accommodations on exams, usually in the form of extra time on the exam. Other accommodations are available as well on a case-by-case basis. You will need to provide written confirmation from a medical professional documenting the disability, which must be received by the WSET at least eight weeks prior to an exam. If you would like to discuss the possibility of a special accommodation, please email our support team at [email protected].
